When the Road Gets Bumpy Again

Last night, Amy experienced a sudden spike in blood pressure, weakness on her left side, difficulty walking, and periods of confusion. As soon as these symptoms appeared, we brought her immediately to the hospital near our home.

The symptoms have come and gone since her admission, occurring intermittently throughout last night and today. Amy has undergone a CT scan, an MRI, and a series of blood tests. The doctors are still trying to determine the cause of these symptoms. One concern is that her thyroid levels are significantly elevated, and the doctors believe this may be contributing to what she is experiencing.

At this time, her transplant team is determining whether she should be transported back to the transplant hospital in Philadelphia for further evaluation and care. We are waiting for direction and continue to trust the Lord as we navigate this unexpected turn.

We remain incredibly grateful for the medical staff and their diligence, and we continue to thank God for the gift of the living donor who made her transplant possible. Please continue to pray for that person’s full recovery as well.

A Devotional Thought: When Life Gets Hard Again

The journey of healing is rarely a straight line.

Just as things begin to feel “normal,” life can take another unexpected turn. One moment you’re walking in peace, and the next you’re back in the valley: confused, concerned, and unsure of what comes next.

Yet even here, God remains our unshakable hope.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
(Psalm 46:1)

The presence of trials does not mean the absence of God. He is not only the God of deliverance; He is also the God of delays, detours, and disruptions. He walks with us in the storm as surely as He calms it.

To those of you facing your own version of this, whether a medical diagnosis, a relational rupture, or an overwhelming fear, let me encourage you: In Christ, you are not alone, and you are not forsaken. His grace is sufficient, even here.

How You Can Pray

  • For wisdom and discernment for Amy’s care team
  • For stabilization of her thyroid levels and complete healing
  • For peace and strength as we await the next steps
  • For continued healing for the living donor
  • For God’s glory to be revealed through it all

We are grateful for your love and prayers. Thank you for walking this road with us. Please don’t lose hope; our God is faithful.

By His grace and for His glory,
James
